Novel Writing Software for Linux

The title is actually a bit misleading. Wavemaker runs on everything. Including Linux (I personally use it on my Ubuntu Laptop, my chromeOS laptop, as well as my Windows PC and my Android Tablets and Phone)

For the uninitiated it does look a bit like a website, (Which in fact is ALSO is). There is however one major difference.

You can install wavemaker locally, and run it offline!

It’s a Progressive Web App – Here’s how to install it

I use a lot of different devices , and wavemaker was built to do all the same stuff on all of them. Using this technology makes it much, much easier. The key elements are you need to have a PWA compatible web browser (Right now that’s Chromium and Chrome, but the other browsers are all planning to support this ).

So If you haven’t already install chrome/chromium and simply visit https://wavemaker.cards It will prompt for an install.

  1. Thank you very much for allowing me to use the PWA!
To be honest, I am using iPad, but iOS 12.1 have problems with Google Drive login and I thought it was this PWA problems. Turns out in iOS 12.2 the issue was fixed (in 12.1 the PWA opens links safari, which has different cookies than in PWA. 12.2 lets PWA opens its own web pages, which lets PWA keeps its own cookies).

Once again, thank you very much!

  2. Love the program! I’ve been looking for something like this for years that gives you the tools but gets out of the way on how you use them. I think the syncing could be more seamless but I love it so far and I’ve moved my current project over to it.

Also could I request better mobile support? I don’t write a lot on the phone but it’d be nice to pull up a project and do some exploratory stuff in a pinch.

    1. Hi

Yes it’s not quite fully functional on mobile I’m afraid. The writing tool can work pretty well, but the others struggle a bit, more to do with the fact they tend to display lots of info on screen

I’m working on the sync – I’m going to try and smooth the process out a bit, I have ideas but need some time to get the order things need to happen right

Thanks – hope you enjoy writing with it 🙂

  3. As I mentioned on one of your YT clips – there is a lot to like about Wavemaker. I’d love to be able to define my characters, locations, and objects too though – check out software like Bibisco, WriteItNow, and Freewriter (amongst others) for how they prompt writers to set up these important parts of a novel. The rest – like planning – is already handled brilliantly by your program. Oh, and in Linux, could you tell me where I might find the project files that I create? Otherwise, there’s a lot of promise to this program.

    1. The Files are stores in your local browser database – this is not ideal so I encourage you to make regular backups – Ideally sync it to google drive where a copy of the data is in a a file called wm.wavemakerData. If you’re slightly techy at all you’ll recognise it on opening as a .json file – sort of a structured document containing all your data
